Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu flagged off the next generation Dhruv NG helicopter developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in Bengaluru, highlighting a significant achievement in India’s indigenous aviation manufacturing efforts. The event was attended by senior officials from HAL, representatives of the aviation and defence sectors, and other dignitaries.

The Dhruv NG is an advanced version of the existing Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter and has been developed with a focus on enhanced performance, safety, and operational efficiency. According to officials, the helicopter incorporates modern avionics systems, improved flight controls, and upgraded engines to meet the evolving requirements of both civilian and defence users. The next generation platform is designed to offer better reliability, reduced maintenance needs, and increased mission versatility.

During the flag off ceremony, the minister acknowledged the contribution of HAL engineers and technicians in strengthening India’s aerospace capabilities. He emphasized the importance of indigenous design and manufacturing in achieving self reliance in the aviation sector. The development of the Dhruv NG aligns with the government’s broader vision of promoting domestic defence production and reducing dependence on imported platforms.

HAL officials stated that the Dhruv NG is capable of performing a wide range of roles, including passenger transport, search and rescue operations, medical evacuation, surveillance, and utility missions. The helicopter is expected to cater to the requirements of civil operators, state agencies, and defence forces. Its modular design allows for mission specific configurations, making it suitable for diverse operating conditions across the country.

Bengaluru continues to play a central role in India’s aerospace ecosystem, serving as a hub for research, development, and manufacturing. The launch of the Dhruv NG further reinforces the city’s position as a key centre for aviation innovation. Officials noted that the project has also generated employment opportunities and strengthened the domestic supply chain through the involvement of multiple Indian vendors.

The flag off of the Dhruv NG comes at a time when India is focusing on expanding its civil aviation infrastructure and enhancing defence preparedness. Indigenous platforms like the Dhruv NG are expected to support these objectives by providing cost effective and technologically advanced solutions tailored to Indian requirements.

The successful development and launch of the next generation Dhruv helicopter reflect HAL’s continued commitment to innovation and quality. As the helicopter enters the next phase of testing and certification, it is expected to play a vital role in supporting India’s aviation growth and reinforcing the country’s position as a capable aerospace manufacturing nation.

During the flag off ceremony, the minister acknowledged the contribution of HAL engineers and technicians in strengthening India’s aerospace capabilities.
