Thick smog has engulfed several parts of the city, including the iconic Akshardham Temple area, reducing visibility and raising health concerns.

Delhi’s air quality has worsened, prompting authorities to invoke Stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) as pollution levels reached the 'severe' category. Thick smog has engulfed several parts of the city, including the iconic Akshardham Temple area, reducing visibility and raising health concerns.

Stage 4 restrictions, the highest level of pollution control measures, include halting construction activities, banning non-essential diesel-powered vehicles, and restricting industrial operations that contribute to pollution. Public transport services are being increased to discourage private vehicle use and reduce vehicular emissions.

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has urged residents to minimize outdoor activities and work from home if possible. Health experts have warned of increased respiratory issues, particularly among children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.

Delhi’s air quality typically worsens during winter due to factors like stubble burning in neighboring states, vehicular emissions, and unfavorable weather conditions. Authorities are coordinating with nearby states to curb stubble burning and enforce stricter environmental norms.

As the air quality crisis deepens, citizens have called for more sustainable pollution control measures. The government has pledged intensified efforts, including deploying anti-smog guns, enhancing green cover, and imposing penalties on polluting industries. Combating air pollution remains a pressing challenge for India’s capital city.
