The Government of India has officially refuted widespread claims circulating on social media regarding a so-called central scheme that allegedly offers citizens a daily profit of Rs 1.25 lakh under the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Government of India has officially refuted widespread claims circulating on social media regarding a so-called central scheme that allegedly offers citizens a daily profit of Rs 1.25 lakh under the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The clarification was issued after several fake messages and videos went viral across platforms, falsely promoting the existence of an investment scheme purportedly endorsed by the Prime Minister.

The Press Information Bureau (PIB), through its official fact-checking arm, stated that the claim is entirely false and that no such government programme exists. The agency urged citizens not to believe or share such misleading information and clarified that the viral content appears to be part of an organised scam intended to mislead the public and possibly collect personal or financial data under false pretences.

According to PIB Fact Check, the message uses fake screenshots and manipulated video clips that falsely associate the scheme with official government announcements. In reality, there is no scheme that promises such high daily returns, and no initiative has been launched by the Prime Minister or any ministry offering this kind of financial benefit.

The government has warned that such schemes are often designed to appear legitimate, using the names and images of prominent leaders, including the Prime Minister, to gain trust. Cybersecurity experts caution that engaging with these fraudulent schemes may lead to identity theft, financial loss, or data breaches.

Citizens have been advised to verify any scheme or announcement through trusted government portals such as the official websites of relevant ministries or the Press Information Bureau. The public can also use the PIB Fact Check service on social media to report suspicious messages and request verification.

Officials also urged media outlets and digital influencers to avoid amplifying such unverified claims. They highlighted the importance of responsible digital behaviour, especially as misinformation spreads quickly across WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

In recent months, several scams using similar formats have emerged, often promising unbelievable profits or instant financial rewards. In most cases, unsuspecting users are directed to fraudulent websites where they are asked to share bank account details, Aadhaar numbers, or OTPs, which are later used to commit financial fraud.

The government reiterated that no financial scheme offering guaranteed daily profits has ever been launched, and citizens should treat any such offer with skepticism. Only schemes officially announced on government websites or through press releases should be considered credible.

This warning serves as another reminder of the growing challenge of online misinformation in India. As digital literacy becomes crucial in today’s connected world, the government continues to educate the public on how to identify scams, avoid traps, and report suspicious online activity.

The Press Information Bureau and law enforcement agencies remain vigilant and have encouraged citizens to report any such fraudulent links or messages so that action can be taken against those responsible.
