The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert, warning of extremely heavy rainfall and severe weather conditions. The alert comes as the region braces for intense rainfall, with the possibility of flash floods and landslides in low-lying and vulnerable areas.
In addition to the red alert, heavy rainfall is expected across several parts of Southern India, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. The IMD has advised local authorities to take preventive measures, including evacuation of people from flood-prone areas and ensuring the safety of those living in vulnerable conditions.
The heavy rains are attributed to the remnants of Cyclone Fengal. The IMD has also issued warnings for potential landslides in hilly areas, along with disruptions in transportation.
Residents in affected areas have been urged to stay updated with local advisories and avoid venturing out in extreme weather conditions. Emergency services and disaster management teams are on high alert, preparing to respond to any adverse situations caused by the expected downpours.
With climate-related extreme events becoming more frequent, authorities are focusing on preparedness to mitigate the impact of such weather disturbances on local communities and infrastructure.
