India has officially responded to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's remarks concerning Article 370 and the Kashmir issue made during his address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). In a robust rebuttal, India emphasized that Pakistan is effectively governed by military influence, questioning its authority to comment on matters related to Kashmir.
During the UNGA session, Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s position on Kashmir, arguing for the restoration of Article 370 and calling for international intervention. In response, India’s delegation highlighted that Pakistan's military dominance and internal challenges compromise its credibility on such issues.
India's representative asserted that the situation in Kashmir is an integral part of India's internal affairs and emphasized the country's commitment to its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Indian government has consistently maintained that Article 370, which previously granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, was abrogated in August 2019 to promote national integration and development in the region.
Moreover, India criticized Pakistan for its own human rights record and failure to address issues within its borders, particularly in regions affected by terrorism and military governance. The Indian delegation called for the international community to recognize Pakistan's military-run administration, urging a focus on its internal issues rather than external territorial claims.
This exchange at the UNGA underscores the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan over Kashmir, a long-standing conflict that continues to draw international attention. As both nations present their narratives on the global stage, the need for constructive dialogue remains critical in addressing the complexities of the Kashmir issue.
India's firm stance reflects its broader strategy of asserting sovereignty and countering narratives that question its policies in Jammu and Kashmir, reinforcing its commitment to national unity and development.
