Commemorating 11 years of transformative technological progress under the government’s flagship Digital India initiative, the Prime Minister emphasized the crucial role technology has played in enhancing governance, empowering citizens, and boosting the national economy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday praised India’s growing influence in the global technology sector, stating that the country has emerged as a leading force in digital innovation. Commemorating 11 years of transformative technological progress under the government’s flagship Digital India initiative, the Prime Minister emphasized the crucial role technology has played in enhancing governance, empowering citizens, and boosting the national economy.

Speaking at a virtual event, PM Modi said, “India has not only adopted technology but shaped it to meet the needs of its people. The last 11 years have shown how digital tools can transform lives, especially those of the poor and marginalized.”

He highlighted how digital platforms such as Aadhaar, UPI (Unified Payments Interface), CoWIN, and DigiLocker have redefined the way citizens interact with the government. These platforms have allowed people to access essential services in real-time, without the need for intermediaries. “Technology has brought government services to people’s fingertips, increased transparency, and improved efficiency in welfare delivery,” the Prime Minister noted.

According to PM Modi, one of the most significant impacts of technological advancement has been the empowerment of economically weaker sections. Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes, powered by digital infrastructure, have ensured that government subsidies and welfare benefits reach the intended beneficiaries without leakage. Over the past decade, trillions of rupees have been transferred directly to citizens' bank accounts, eliminating corruption and middlemen.

The Prime Minister also mentioned the rise of India's start-up ecosystem as a reflection of the country’s tech-driven future. With over 100 unicorns and thousands of innovative start-ups, India is now one of the top nations in the world for entrepreneurship and digital innovation. “Our youth are driving this change. They are building apps, platforms, and technologies that are not only serving India but also making a global impact,” he said.

PM Modi pointed out that India’s focus on digital inclusion is ensuring that no one is left behind. The government has worked to expand internet access across rural and remote areas, promoting digital literacy and supporting small businesses through technology.

In addition, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of data security and ethical use of artificial intelligence. He reiterated the government's commitment to strengthening digital infrastructure while ensuring that privacy and individual rights are protected.

The speech concluded with a call to continue innovating and adapting to the evolving global digital landscape. PM Modi urged citizens, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to stay united in building a self-reliant, tech-enabled India that can lead the world in the 21st century.

As India celebrates over a decade of digital transformation, the emphasis remains on inclusive growth, responsible innovation, and using technology as a force for good.
