The Indian government stated that this suspension will remain in effect until Pakistan ceases its support for cross-border terrorism.

Following the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals—including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen—India has initiated a series of decisive actions to address the situation and hold Pakistan accountable.

The attack, claimed by the militant group Kashmir Resistance, is believed to have been orchestrated by Pakistan-based elements. In response, India has suspended the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, a critical agreement governing the shared use of the Indus River system. The Indian government stated that this suspension will remain in effect until Pakistan ceases its support for cross-border terrorism.

Additionally, India has downgraded diplomatic relations with Pakistan by expelling Pakistani diplomats and recalling its own from Islamabad. The government has also suspended all visa services for Pakistani nationals and closed the Attari-Wagah border, a significant land crossing between the two nations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack, describing it as an "act of terrorism" and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. The government has launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident and is coordinating with international partners to track down those responsible.

In parallel, India has increased security measures across Jammu and Kashmir, with additional troops deployed to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further incidents. The government has also called upon the international community to support its efforts in combating cross-border terrorism and to hold Pakistan accountable for its alleged role in supporting militant activities.

The United Nations has urged both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue to resolve their differences peacefully. However, the recent developments have significantly strained bilateral relations, with both nations taking steps that could have long-term implications for regional stability.

As the situation evolves, India remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens and is determined to take all necessary measures to combat terrorism and uphold its sovereignty. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, hoping for a de-escalation of tensions and a return to diplomatic engagement.

The government has also suspended all visa services for Pakistani nationals and closed the Attari-Wagah border, a significant land crossing between the two nations.
