Built with next-generation maritime technology, the vessel is equipped with a dynamic positioning system that uses multiple sensors, GPS, and automatic thruster control to maintain its position even in turbulent waters.

India's maritime defence capabilities continue to strengthen with vessels like INS Nistar playing a crucial role in deep-sea operations. Recently, the Indian Navy's deep-submergence rescue vessel showcased its technological excellence by maintaining superior stability amid challenging sea conditions. The vessel's performance has highlighted the effectiveness of advanced engineering systems designed for high-risk maritime missions.

INS Nistar is a vital asset for the Indian Navy, primarily used in deep-sea rescue operations, especially for submarines in distress. Built with next-generation maritime technology, the vessel is equipped with a dynamic positioning system that uses multiple sensors, GPS, and automatic thruster control to maintain its position even in turbulent waters. This system ensures the ship remains stable during complex missions, particularly when deploying underwater rescue units or equipment.

The recent sea trials conducted in adverse weather conditions off the eastern coast demonstrated the vessel’s ability to function seamlessly despite high waves and strong winds. Naval officials reported that the vessel’s dynamic positioning technology allowed it to stay precisely over a target location, making it invaluable for rescue and salvage operations.

One of the vessel’s standout features is its support for the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV), which can operate at depths of over 600 metres. The DSRV is deployed from INS Nistar during emergencies involving submarines. The successful operation of this system is critically dependent on the stability and positioning of the support ship, especially in rough seas.

The Indian Navy has emphasized the strategic importance of having a platform like INS Nistar, especially at a time when undersea warfare and operations are becoming increasingly significant in the Indo-Pacific region. With multiple nations expanding their submarine fleets, the ability to respond swiftly to underwater emergencies is considered a top priority.

Beyond rescue operations, INS Nistar is also used for underwater maintenance, training exercises, and scientific missions. Its multi-purpose design ensures that the vessel remains an active part of India’s defence and research ecosystem.

The stability systems onboard are not just essential for operational safety but also protect the lives of naval personnel involved in high-risk missions. Defence analysts note that such technologies align with India’s focus on indigenization and modernization of its armed forces, making the Navy better prepared for both peacetime and conflict scenarios.

India's Ministry of Defence has further plans to enhance deep-sea operational capabilities by commissioning additional vessels with similar or upgraded technologies. Investments are also being made in training personnel to operate these sophisticated systems with precision.

The performance of INS Nistar has not only reinforced India's technical competence in maritime defence but also demonstrated the country's growing capability in building and deploying advanced naval platforms. As sea-based threats evolve, ships like INS Nistar will continue to play a pivotal role in safeguarding India’s maritime interests.

Beyond rescue operations, INS Nistar is also used for underwater maintenance, training exercises, and scientific missions.
