Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a significant two-day visit to Laos to participate in the 21st ASEAN-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit. This visit holds particular importance as it coincides with the 10th anniversary of India's "Act East" policy, designed to strengthen India's engagement with ASEAN nations, a region that plays a vital role in India's Indo-Pacific strategy.

During these summits, key areas of focus will include enhancing connectivity, expanding digital public infrastructure, and building resilient supply chains. These discussions are especially pertinent given the rising geopolitical challenges in the Indo-Pacific, such as territorial disputes in the South China Sea and the ongoing civil war in Myanmar.

PM Modi is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with leaders from ASEAN countries, including Laos Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, to further bolster relations. India’s strong cultural and historical ties with Laos provide a foundation for collaborations in areas like power projects and the restoration of cultural heritage.

This visit underscores India’s strategic interest in ASEAN’s prosperity and stability, with India positioning itself as a key partner in shaping the future of the Indo-Pacific region
