Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 184 newly constructed Type-7 multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament in New Delhi, marking a significant development in the improvement of residential infrastructure for lawmakers. As part of the inauguration ceremony, PM Modi also planted a Sindoor tree sapling on the premises, symbolizing a commitment to environmental conservation alongside infrastructure growth.
The flats, located in a prime area of the capital, have been designed with modern facilities to ensure comfort, convenience, and functionality for MPs. Each unit is equipped with spacious living areas, energy-efficient features, and the latest safety standards. The project aims to address the housing needs of parliamentarians while reflecting the government’s focus on sustainable and well-planned urban development.
During the ceremony, PM Modi spoke about the importance of providing adequate facilities to elected representatives, enabling them to focus on their responsibilities without concerns over basic amenities. He stressed that infrastructure projects such as these should balance modern design with environmental responsibility, and the planting of the Sindoor sapling was a symbolic step toward that goal.
Officials from the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) noted that the construction of the flats adhered to high-quality standards, using materials that are durable and environmentally friendly. The design incorporates green building practices, including efficient water management systems, energy-saving lighting, and landscaped common areas. These measures aim to reduce the environmental footprint of the complex while ensuring a pleasant living environment.
The Sindoor tree sapling planted by PM Modi carries cultural and environmental significance. Known for its medicinal properties and vibrant red flowers, the Sindoor tree is considered auspicious in Indian tradition. The inclusion of such greenery within the housing complex not only adds aesthetic value but also promotes biodiversity in urban spaces.
The newly inaugurated flats replace older accommodations that had become outdated over the years. By providing upgraded housing, the government ensures that MPs have access to facilities that meet current lifestyle and work requirements. This is particularly important given the demanding schedules and responsibilities of parliamentarians, which often require a reliable and comfortable living environment close to the Parliament complex.
PM Modi also highlighted the broader vision behind such projects, stating that they reflect India’s aspirations for modern infrastructure that serves both functional and symbolic purposes. By combining high-quality housing with green initiatives, the government aims to set a standard for future urban development projects.
The inauguration of the flats and the symbolic planting of the Sindoor sapling underline the dual priorities of infrastructure advancement and environmental stewardship. Together, they represent a step toward creating spaces that are not only practical but also aligned with the principles of sustainable living.
