As per an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister will visit Adampur Airport at around 3:45 PM and formally unveil its new name, Sri Guru Ravidas Ji Airport, Adampur.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Punjab on February 1, during which he will rename Adampur Airport in honour of Sant Guru Ravidas Ji and inaugurate the newly developed terminal building at Halwara Airport in Ludhiana district. The visit is part of the government’s broader efforts to honour social reformers and strengthen infrastructure development across the country.

As per an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister will visit Adampur Airport at around 3:45 PM and formally unveil its new name, Sri Guru Ravidas Ji Airport, Adampur. The renaming coincides with the 649th birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidas Ji, a revered saint and social reformer whose teachings emphasised equality, compassion, and human dignity.

The Prime Minister’s Office stated that renaming the airport is a tribute to Guru Ravidas Ji’s enduring influence on India’s social fabric. His message of social harmony and inclusiveness continues to inspire generations, and the decision reflects the government’s recognition of his contributions.

During the same visit, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the terminal building at Halwara Airport, marking a significant milestone for aviation infrastructure in Punjab. The new terminal is expected to serve as an important gateway for Ludhiana and nearby regions, which are known for their industrial and agricultural activity.

According to the official release, the earlier airport facility serving Ludhiana had a relatively short runway that was suitable only for small aircraft. To enhance connectivity and allow operations of larger aircraft, a new civil enclave has been developed at Halwara. The upgraded runway is capable of handling A320-type aircraft, which is expected to improve passenger capacity and flight options.

Halwara Airport is located in Ludhiana district and also houses a strategically important Indian Air Force station. The development of a modern civil terminal alongside existing defence infrastructure has been carried out with necessary coordination to ensure operational efficiency and safety.

The inauguration of the Halwara terminal is expected to boost regional connectivity, facilitate faster travel, and support economic growth in Punjab. Improved air connectivity is likely to benefit industries, exporters, farmers, and residents by providing better access to domestic and international markets.

The Prime Minister’s visit underscores the central government’s focus on infrastructure-led development and cultural recognition. By combining the renaming of Adampur Airport with the inauguration of a modern aviation facility, the visit highlights both heritage and progress as key elements of national development
