Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the latest episode of his radio programme Mann Ki Baat, emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant in safeguarding the Indian Constitution. Addressing the nation, he called upon citizens to take personal responsibility in protecting the constitutional framework that upholds the principles of democracy, justice, liberty, and equality.
The Prime Minister’s remarks come at a time when political discourse surrounding constitutional values and democratic governance has been intensifying across the country. Without naming any political party or recent events, Modi subtly underlined the need for civic awareness and commitment to national integrity.
“The Constitution of India is not just a legal document. It is a living expression of the hopes and aspirations of our people. It is the soul of our democracy,” Modi said. He stressed that every citizen must not only be aware of their rights but also their duties in preserving the constitutional order.
In his speech, Modi highlighted how the Constitution has guided India through several decades of change, growth, and challenges. He credited the framers of the Constitution for their foresight and dedication, which enabled the country to stand as a vibrant and diverse democracy. The Prime Minister stated that protecting the Constitution means protecting the rights of all citizens, especially the vulnerable and marginalized.
He urged young people in particular to read and understand the Constitution. “Youth are the backbone of the nation. When they are aware and informed, the country becomes stronger and more unified,” he said. Modi also encouraged citizens to actively participate in democratic processes such as voting, public discussions, and community initiatives aimed at social welfare.
The Prime Minister cited examples of citizens across the country who are working to promote constitutional values in everyday life. These included grassroots volunteers, educators, social workers, and students taking initiatives to raise awareness about equality, justice, and freedom.
Modi also drew attention to India’s progress in digital governance, transparency, and citizen engagement, which he described as aligned with the constitutional goal of accountable governance. He reiterated that national development must be rooted in democratic values, which form the foundation of the Indian state.
The Mann Ki Baat programme, which has become a regular platform for the Prime Minister to connect directly with the public, focused heavily on civic duty and national unity in this edition. It also addressed other topics such as environmental protection, cultural heritage, and innovation by Indian youth.
As the nation prepares for upcoming legislative and parliamentary developments, the Prime Minister’s message appears aimed at reinforcing faith in constitutional democracy and encouraging citizens to participate actively and responsibly in nation-building.
