Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has raised alarm over the growing air pollution crisis in India, calling it a "national emergency." In a statement, Gandhi emphasized that millions of lives are being cut short due to the hazardous air quality, which has become a significant public health concern across the country.
The former Congress president expressed his deep concern over the deteriorating air quality, particularly in major cities like Delhi, where pollution levels have reached alarming heights in recent years. According to him, the government’s failure to address this environmental issue is contributing to the worsening health of citizens, with children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions being the most vulnerable.
Gandhi highlighted the urgent need for a collective response to combat the growing threat of air pollution. He called on both the central and state governments to take immediate, effective measures to reduce pollutants, ensure better air quality, and promote sustainable practices across industries. Furthermore, he suggested that all sectors of society—government bodies, industries, environmentalists, and citizens—must come together to create long-term solutions to this pressing issue.
The Congress leader also urged the government to prioritize investments in clean energy, public transport, and green spaces, all of which can play a vital role in mitigating the harmful effects of pollution. With health experts warning of the severe consequences of poor air quality, Gandhi's remarks aim to draw national attention to what he terms an ongoing environmental crisis requiring swift action from all stakeholders.
