Air ambulances are typically deployed for critical medical transfers, requiring careful coordination between operators, air traffic control authorities and medical teams.

A chartered air ambulance operating from Ranchi to Delhi crashed shortly after takeoff on Monday evening, raising serious concerns about aviation safety amid adverse weather conditions. All seven individuals on board are feared dead, according to initial reports from authorities. The incident is currently under investigation by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

The aircraft departed from Ranchi at 19:11 IST on a medical evacuation flight. Soon after takeoff, the crew established communication with Kolkata Air Traffic Control, following standard aviation procedures. Officials stated that weather conditions in parts of the flight path were reported to be unstable at the time of departure.

At approximately 19:34 IST, the pilots requested permission to deviate from their planned route, citing bad weather conditions. According to preliminary inputs shared by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the request was made as the aircraft encountered adverse atmospheric disturbances. Shortly after this communication, the aircraft lost both radio contact and radar visibility with Kolkata Air Traffic Control.

The last known location of the aircraft was about 100 nautical miles southeast of Varanasi. Rescue and search operations were initiated soon after the loss of contact was confirmed. Local authorities, disaster response teams and aviation officials coordinated efforts to locate the wreckage and assess the situation.

Officials have stated that while adverse weather appears to be a significant factor, a detailed technical investigation is required to determine the precise cause of the crash. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has begun collecting flight data, maintenance records and communication logs. If the aircraft was equipped with a flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder, these devices will play a crucial role in reconstructing the sequence of events.

Aviation experts note that sudden weather changes, including thunderstorms, turbulence and wind shear, can pose serious challenges during flight. Pilots are trained to seek route deviations to avoid severe weather systems, which is a standard safety procedure. However, investigations must examine whether additional technical, mechanical or operational factors contributed to the accident.

The crash has once again highlighted the risks associated with emergency medical aviation services, which often operate under urgent timelines. Air ambulances are typically deployed for critical medical transfers, requiring careful coordination between operators, air traffic control authorities and medical teams.

Authorities have assured that a transparent and comprehensive probe will be conducted. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is expected to release further details once preliminary findings are formally documented.

As families await confirmation and official updates, the focus remains on determining what led to the sudden loss of contact and subsequent crash. The findings of the investigation will be essential in understanding whether adverse weather alone caused the tragedy or if multiple factors were involved.

Officials have stated that while adverse weather appears to be a significant factor, a detailed technical investigation is required to determine the precise cause of the crash.
