Delhi has faced severe air pollution in recent years, with the annual surge in firecracker usage contributing significantly to the deterioration of air quality, particularly during the festival season.

The Supreme Court of India has directed the authorities to take immediate action to enforce the firecracker ban in Delhi, emphasizing that no religion encourages pollution. The decision comes in light of growing concerns over the city’s air quality, which deteriorates significantly during the Diwali festival, traditionally marked by widespread use of firecrackers.

In its ruling, the court highlighted the importance of maintaining a pollution-free environment and called for stricter implementation of the ban to protect public health, especially for vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly. The court further noted that the harmful effects of firecracker emissions on air quality cannot be justified by religious practices or festivities.

Delhi has faced severe air pollution in recent years, with the annual surge in firecracker usage contributing significantly to the deterioration of air quality, particularly during the festival season. This ruling comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Supreme Court and environmental authorities to address pollution and mitigate its adverse effects on public health.

The government, in line with the Supreme Court's instructions, will now have to ramp up enforcement measures, including increased patrolling, penalties for violators, and public awareness campaigns about the harmful impact of firecrackers. The ruling reinforces the growing push for more sustainable and eco-friendly ways to celebrate festivals while minimizing environmental damage.
