Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, during his visit to Delhi, stressed the importance of further strengthening India-Singapore relations. One of the key highlights of his visit was the exploration of a secure data corridor between India’s GIFT City and Singapore, which would enable the safe exchange of financial data between the two nations. The two sides are also exploring the possibility of establishing a renewable energy corridor, reinforcing their commitment to sustainable development and energy cooperation.
Shanmugaratnam praised India’s growing focus on the eastern states, particularly Assam and Odisha, noting their strategic significance in India’s development agenda. Reflecting on his previous visits, he mentioned that during his last trip to India, before assuming office as president, he had visited Assam at Prime Minister Modi's suggestion. As part of his current state visit, Shanmugaratnam is also scheduled to visit Odisha, a state with great potential and importance in India's eastern region.
Throughout his visit, the Singapore President expressed his optimism about the future of bilateral relations, emphasizing that both India and Singapore are “natural partners” with shared goals of growth, innovation, and collaboration in various sectors. The growing partnership between the two countries is seen as an opportunity to further enhance trade, investment, and people-to-people ties, making them a strong force for regional and global progress.
