Congress communications chief Jairam Ramesh wrote on X that, with Trump not attending, the “self-styled Vishwaguru” would certainly attend in person.

The Congress party has taken a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the G20 summit in Johannesburg, South Africa (November 22–23, 2025), saying he will attend “safely and securely” because US President Donald Trump has announced a boycott. Congress communications chief Jairam Ramesh wrote on X that, with Trump not attending, the “self-styled Vishwaguru” would certainly attend in person.

Ramesh also asked whether the “huglomacy” with Modi’s “good friend” would return when the next G20 summit is held on American soil. He pointed to Modi’s recent absence from the India-ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur, which the party linked to avoiding a face-to-face meeting with Trump.
