Indonesia’s National Museum in Jakarta reopened on October 15, 2024, after undergoing extensive revitalization following a fire incident. The reopening marks a significant cultural moment, featuring not only the restoration of the museum but also the return of 288 historic artifacts repatriated from the Netherlands. These artifacts include items that were taken during the Dutch colonial era, such as statues from Bali’s Puputan Badung war of 1906 and sculptures from East Java's Candi Singhasari temple complex, including representations of Ganesha, Brahma, and Nandi.
The artifacts were repatriated through a collaborative effort between the Indonesian and Dutch governments, underlining the importance of preserving and recognizing Indonesia's rich historical and cultural heritage.
