US President Donald Trump has voiced strong opposition to Tesla’s reported plans to establish a manufacturing facility in India, calling the move “very unfair” to the United States. Trump made the statement while standing next to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, raising concerns about the offshoring of American jobs.
Tesla, which has been in talks with the Indian government, is considering setting up a new factory to produce affordable EVs for the Indian and global markets. The decision aligns with India’s push to attract foreign investment and expand its electric vehicle industry. However, Trump argued that such moves weaken the US economy, as manufacturing jobs could shift to India instead of being created domestically.
While Musk did not directly respond to Trump's remarks, Tesla has continued expanding globally, with manufacturing plants in China, Germany, and now potentially India. Experts believe that setting up a facility in India would allow Tesla to reduce production costs and access a growing EV market.
Trump’s statement has sparked political and economic debates about the balance between globalization and national job security. As Tesla moves forward with its India plans, discussions around economic policies, trade relations, and the future of American manufacturing are expected to intensify.
