Utility officials highlighted that safety remained the top priority, particularly in areas where fallen trees or exposed power lines posed risks to residents and repair teams.

Large parts of North Seattle experienced widespread power outages on Tuesday as strong winds caused disruptions to electricity supply across the region. Seattle City Light confirmed that more than 16,000 customers were without power as of Tuesday afternoon, following a series of weather-related incidents linked to high wind conditions.

The National Weather Service had earlier issued a wind advisory for the Seattle metropolitan area, warning of gusts strong enough to bring down trees, branches and power lines. As forecasted, several neighbourhoods in North Seattle reported electricity failures after trees fell onto overhead lines and infrastructure sustained damage. Emergency crews were deployed to assess and repair affected areas as conditions allowed.

Seattle City Light stated that restoration efforts were ongoing, but progress was dependent on weather conditions and the extent of damage. Utility officials highlighted that safety remained the top priority, particularly in areas where fallen trees or exposed power lines posed risks to residents and repair teams. Customers were advised to stay clear of downed wires and report hazards immediately.

The power outages affected residential areas as well as small businesses, causing temporary disruptions to daily activities. Some traffic signals also experienced outages, prompting city officials to urge motorists to exercise caution at intersections without functioning signals. Public safety agencies coordinated with utility workers to manage traffic flow and ensure emergency access in affected zones.

The National Weather Service warned that gusty conditions could persist, raising concerns about additional outages or delays in power restoration. Residents were encouraged to monitor official weather updates and follow guidance from local authorities. Those relying on medical equipment dependent on electricity were advised to make contingency arrangements or contact emergency services if required.

Seattle City Light continued to update its online outage map to provide real-time information on affected areas, estimated restoration times and crew activity. Officials noted that while some customers might see power restored quickly, others could face longer outages depending on the complexity of repairs and accessibility of damaged infrastructure.

City officials reiterated the importance of preparedness during severe weather events, recommending that households keep emergency kits, flashlights and backup charging options readily available. They also reminded residents to secure loose outdoor items that could become hazardous in strong winds.

As repair work continued into the evening, authorities assured residents that crews were working around the clock to restore power safely and efficiently. Further updates were expected as weather conditions improved and assessments of infrastructure damage were completed.
