In a landmark move, the United States has handed over 1,441 stolen antiquities to India, collectively valued at over $10 million. These antiquities include sculptures, idols, and other artifacts of immense cultural and historical significance, many of which date back centuries.
The artifacts were recovered following an extensive investigation by US law enforcement agencies, with close cooperation from Indian authorities. These items were part of illicit trafficking networks that smuggled cultural treasures out of India to international markets.
Speaking on the occasion, Indian officials expressed gratitude to the US government and emphasized the importance of reclaiming the country's cultural heritage. “Each artifact represents a piece of India's rich history and spiritual legacy," said an Indian cultural affairs representative.
This development underscores the commitment of both nations to combat the illegal trade of antiquities and strengthen their cultural ties. Efforts to recover more such stolen treasures continue as both governments aim to dismantle trafficking networks that rob nations of their heritage.
