Maruti Suzuki is preparing to introduce an updated version of the Baleno premium hatchback in India. The facelift is expected to arrive on September 5, 2026, marking the first major update to the current generation since its introduction in 2022. Recent reports and test vehicles indicate that the company is focusing on styling and feature improvements rather than a major mechanical change.
Exterior Design Updates
The 2026 Baleno facelift is expected to receive a revised front section. Test vehicles have indicated changes to the grille and front bumper, giving the hatchback a fresher appearance. The headlights are expected to retain much of their existing design, although other details around the front could be updated.
The side profile is expected to remain largely familiar. Redesigned alloy wheels could be introduced as part of the facelift. At the rear, the bumper may receive minor changes, while the existing tail lamp design could largely continue.
Interior and Feature Changes
The cabin of the current Baleno already includes a range of technology features, but the facelift could bring additional equipment to keep the model competitive against newer rivals.
Reports suggest that Maruti Suzuki could revise the upholstery and add ambient lighting. A single pane sunroof is also expected to be considered for the updated model.
The current Baleno uses a 9 inch touchscreen infotainment system in higher variants. The facelift is expected to retain the overall dashboard layout, although additional cabin technology could be introduced depending on the variant.
Maruti Suzuki already offers features such as a head up display, 360 degree camera, wireless smartphone connectivity and SmartPlay Pro Plus infotainment on the current Baleno. The final equipment list for the facelift will be confirmed at launch.
Engine and Transmission
The powertrain lineup is expected to remain largely unchanged. The current Baleno is powered by a 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing around 90hp and 113Nm.
The petrol engine is available with a five speed manual transmission and a five speed AMT. A CNG version is also offered with the 1.2 litre engine and manual transmission.
Reports indicate that these powertrain options are expected to continue with the facelift. This means the upcoming model is likely to focus more on design, equipment and convenience rather than introducing a completely new engine.
Expected Price
The current Baleno is priced from around Rs 5.99 lakh to Rs 9.17 lakh, ex showroom, depending on the variant. The facelift is expected to command a small premium because of the additional equipment and styling updates.
The exact price will be announced by Maruti Suzuki when the updated model is officially launched. Buyers should also consider registration, insurance and other charges when calculating the final on road price.
Competition
The Baleno will continue to compete in India's premium hatchback segment. Its key rivals include the Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz and Toyota Glanza.
The facelift could help Maruti Suzuki maintain the Baleno's position in this competitive segment by adding features that are increasingly available in rival models.
What Buyers Can Expect
The upcoming Baleno facelift appears to be a product update rather than an entirely new generation. The core platform, engine options and general design proportions are expected to remain familiar.
The main focus is likely to be on refreshed exterior styling and additional cabin equipment. This approach could make the Baleno more appealing to existing customers looking for a newer version without significantly changing its established characteristics.
Importantly, several details currently being reported remain expectations based on test vehicles and industry reports. Features such as the sunroof, ambient lighting and other cabin upgrades should therefore be treated as expected rather than officially confirmed until Maruti Suzuki releases the complete specifications.
The September 5 launch is expected to provide final information on the Baleno facelift's variants, equipment, prices, engine options and availability
