Its combination of different powertrain options allows Tata Motors to address demand across several parts of the passenger vehicle market.

Tata Motors September 2026 Sales Increase 15 Percent

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles recorded strong sales growth in September 2026, with total passenger vehicle sales increasing 15 percent year on year to 70,210 units. The company had sold 60,907 passenger vehicles in September 2025.

The September performance included domestic and international sales. Domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 68,810 units, compared with 59,667 units in September 2025, representing 15 percent year on year growth. International passenger vehicle sales increased 13 percent to 1,400 units from 1,240 units in the corresponding month last year.

The September sales performance comes as Tata Motors enters the important festive shopping period in India. The company has been expanding its SUV, electric vehicle and CNG portfolio, with models such as the Punch, Nexon and Sierra contributing to its passenger vehicle lineup.

Highest Ever Quarterly Sales in Q2 FY27

Tata Motors also recorded its highest ever quarterly passenger vehicle sales during the second quarter of financial year 2027.

The company sold 2,01,723 passenger vehicles during the July to September quarter, compared with 1,44,397 units during the same period of the previous financial year. This represents a 40 percent year on year increase.

Domestic passenger vehicle sales during Q2 FY27 reached 1,96,674 units, compared with 1,40,189 units in Q2 FY26. International passenger vehicle sales increased 20 percent to 5,049 units from 4,208 units during the corresponding period.

Strong Performance From Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicles were an important contributor to Tata Motors' quarterly performance.

The company sold 15,384 electric vehicles across domestic and international markets in September 2026. This represented a 67 percent increase compared with 9,191 EVs sold in September 2025.

For the July to September quarter, Tata Motors sold 47,150 electric vehicles, an increase of 90 percent compared with 24,855 units in the same quarter of the previous financial year.

According to the company, EVs accounted for 23 percent of its overall passenger vehicle portfolio during Q2 FY27.

CNG Sales Also Reach Record Quarterly Level

CNG vehicles also contributed to Tata Motors' performance during the second quarter.

The company reported its highest ever quarterly CNG sales in Q2 FY27. CNG models accounted for 28 percent of Tata Motors' passenger vehicle volumes during the quarter.

When EV and CNG sales are combined, these two powertrain categories accounted for 51 percent of the company's passenger vehicle sales during Q2 FY27.

The figures indicate that alternative powertrains have become an important part of Tata Motors' passenger vehicle sales mix.

Punch Remains a Key SUV Model

The Tata Punch continued to be an important model for the company during the quarter.

Tata Motors said the Punch emerged as India's highest selling SUV during Q2 FY27. The model is part of Tata Motors' compact SUV portfolio and is available with different powertrain options.

The Punch has also recorded strong monthly sales during 2026. In August 2026, the model sold 21,320 units, making it the best selling car in India that month according to industry sales data.

The continued demand for the Punch has contributed to Tata Motors' presence in the compact SUV segment.

Nexon Continues to Support Tata's SUV Portfolio

The Tata Nexon is another major model in the company's SUV lineup.

The Nexon is available in multiple powertrain configurations, including petrol, diesel, CNG and electric versions. Its combination of different powertrain options allows Tata Motors to address demand across several parts of the passenger vehicle market.

In August 2026, the Nexon recorded sales of 18,431 units, compared with 14,004 units in August 2025, according to industry sales data. This represented a 32 percent year on year increase.

The model therefore remains an important part of Tata Motors' overall passenger vehicle portfolio.

Sierra Adds to the SUV Lineup

The Tata Sierra has also become part of the company's expanding SUV portfolio. The model is available with internal combustion engine and electric options.

The Sierra recorded 5,622 units in August 2026, according to industry sales data. However, its sales were lower than the 6,327 units recorded in July.

Tata Motors has continued to expand the Sierra range ahead of the festive season, including additional variants and special editions.

Festive Season Could Be Important for Auto Sales

September sales are particularly important for automobile manufacturers because the month marks the beginning of the festive buying period in India.

Automakers typically introduce new models, variants and promotional offers around this period. Tata Motors has also expanded its product range with newer models and variants as it enters the festive season.

The company's strong quarterly sales provide a significant base for the coming months, although monthly sales can vary depending on market conditions, inventory levels, customer demand and promotional activity.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle Portfolio

Tata Motors currently offers a broad passenger vehicle portfolio covering hatchbacks, SUVs and electric vehicles. Its lineup includes models such as the Punch, Nexon, Tiago, Altroz, Curvv, Harrier, Safari and Sierra, along with their respective electric versions where available.

The company has been increasing its focus on SUVs and alternative powertrains as consumer preferences change.

The growing contribution of EV and CNG vehicles has also helped Tata Motors diversify its passenger vehicle sales mix.

September Sales in Perspective

The 15 percent year on year increase in September passenger vehicle sales follows strong quarterly growth. Tata Motors' Q2 FY27 sales increased 40 percent year on year to 2,01,723 units, making it the company's highest quarterly passenger vehicle sales figure.

The September numbers also show that domestic sales remain the main contributor to Tata Motors' overall passenger vehicle volumes. Domestic sales accounted for 68,810 of the 70,210 passenger vehicles sold during the month.

International sales contributed another 1,400 units.

What Tata Motors' Latest Numbers Show

The September 2026 sales figures highlight growth across Tata Motors' passenger vehicle business, with SUVs, electric vehicles and CNG models forming important parts of the company's portfolio.

The Punch has maintained strong demand in the compact SUV segment, while the Nexon continues to contribute significant volumes. The Sierra adds another SUV option to the company's lineup.

At the same time, EV sales increased substantially during Q2 FY27, and CNG models also reached a quarterly sales record.

With the festive season underway, Tata Motors will now look to maintain customer demand across its existing models and newer products.
