Bentley has officially unveiled the Torcal, its first fully electric SUV, marking an important step in the luxury carmaker’s transition towards electric mobility. The new SUV combines Bentley’s focus on luxury and handcrafted interiors with an all-electric powertrain, advanced chassis technology and a claimed driving range of up to 600km. The Torcal is expected to make its way to the Indian market around mid-2027, although Bentley has not yet announced India-specific pricing or final specifications.
The Torcal introduces a new design direction for Bentley. According to the company, the SUV adopts a more progressive and minimalist interpretation of Bentley’s design language while retaining details associated with the brand. The exterior includes the illuminated Floating Diamond Grille, distinctive lighting elements and a tailgate design inspired by the luggage carrier of the historic Blue Train Bentley. Bentley also offers extensive scope for personalisation through different exterior colours, wheel designs, interior materials and bespoke options from Mulliner.
The electric SUV is powered by two high-performance electric motors and uses an all-wheel-drive system. Bentley lists the standard Torcal with a maximum output of 821PS and 1,155Nm of torque. It has a 113.2kWh battery and a claimed maximum range of 600km. The standard model can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 3.4 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 250kmph. These figures place the Torcal among the high-performance electric SUVs in the luxury segment.
The more performance-focused Torcal S takes these figures further. Bentley says the Torcal S produces 888PS and 1,350Nm of torque, making it the most powerful production Bentley listed by the company. With Launch Control activated, the Torcal S can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 260kmph. Bentley also claims a maximum driving range of up to 600km for the Torcal S.
Charging performance is another major feature of the new electric SUV. Bentley states that the Torcal can charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 16 minutes using suitable high-power DC charging infrastructure. The company also says that a 10-minute charging session at a 350kW charging station can add more than 350km of claimed range under its specified conditions. Actual charging performance can vary depending on the charging infrastructure, battery temperature and other operating conditions.
The Torcal has also been developed with an emphasis on ride comfort and handling. Bentley’s Active Ride suspension system uses electronically controlled hydraulic technology at each wheel to help manage body movement and reduce roll during cornering. The SUV also features all-wheel steering. At lower speeds, the rear wheels can turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels to reduce the turning circle, while at higher speeds the system can assist with smoother lane changes and overtaking.
Inside the cabin, Bentley continues its focus on premium materials and customisation. The Torcal features handcrafted wood veneers, premium switchgear and a large curved 12.25-inch HD touchscreen. Bentley says the screen is the first OLED display fitted to one of its vehicles. The cabin also features a Dynamic Waterfall Lighting system with more than 450 LEDs. Buyers can choose between different audio systems, including an optional Naim for Bentley setup with 28 speakers and 1,780 watts of power.
The SUV also comes with technology aimed at improving comfort and convenience. The front seats offer 16-way electric adjustment along with heating, ventilation and massage functions. Rear-seat comfort has also been given attention, while Bentley offers additional customisation through its Mulliner division. Optional features include powered doors, a switchable sunroof and advanced parking functions.
For India, the Torcal is expected to arrive around mid-2027. The model will add an electric option to Bentley’s luxury SUV portfolio in the country and will represent the brand’s move into fully electric mobility in the Indian market. Autocar India reports that the India launch is planned for the second half of 2027, with an expected price of around Rs 4.5 crore before launch. However, this price is an estimate and should not be treated as Bentley’s officially announced India price.
The India-spec Torcal could become an important product for Bentley as luxury car buyers increasingly consider electric vehicles. However, the final specifications, equipment list, pricing, charging compatibility and exact launch date for India are yet to be confirmed. Bentley’s official global specifications should therefore be distinguished from India-specific information until the company announces the local version.
With its combination of a 600km claimed range, rapid charging capability, advanced suspension, all-wheel steering and high-performance electric powertrains, the Bentley Torcal represents a significant change in the brand’s product strategy. Instead of relying on a traditional V8 engine, Bentley is using electric motors to deliver both performance and refinement. The Torcal S, with its 888PS output and 2.9-second 0 to 100kmph acceleration time, demonstrates how Bentley is attempting to retain its performance character while moving into the electric vehicle era.
