JSW MG Motor India has expanded its electric vehicle portfolio with the launch of the new Hector Tomahawk EV in India. The electric SUV has been introduced at an introductory ex showroom price of Rs 19.49 lakh. MG is also offering the vehicle through its Battery as a Service model, which brings the initial purchase price down to Rs 13.99 lakh, excluding the separate battery rental charge.
The Hector Tomahawk EV is positioned as a large family electric SUV and is available in both five seat and seven seat layouts. The lower variants are offered as seven seat models, while the five seat configuration is available in the top Essence variant.
Price and Variants
The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is available in three main variants named Excite, Exclusive and Essence.
The entry level Excite seven seat variant is priced at Rs 19.49 lakh ex showroom. The Exclusive seven seat variant costs Rs 21.99 lakh. The Essence variant is available in a five seat configuration at Rs 22.99 lakh, while the seven seat version is priced at Rs 23.49 lakh. These are introductory prices and are applicable to limited units.
MG has also introduced the Battery as a Service ownership model. Under this plan, the starting vehicle price is Rs 13.99 lakh. Customers will additionally pay a battery rental charge of Rs 4.90 per kilometre. The BaaS structure is intended to reduce the initial purchase cost by separating the battery cost from the vehicle's upfront price.
Battery and Range
The Hector Tomahawk EV uses a 69.2 kWh battery pack. The electric SUV is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor that produces around 150 kW, or approximately 204 hp, and 310 Nm of torque.
MG claims a MIDC range of 517 km on a full charge. The actual driving range can vary depending on traffic, road conditions, weather, driving style, vehicle load and use of air conditioning.
The combination of a large battery and claimed range is expected to make the Hector Tomahawk EV suitable for both urban driving and longer journeys.
Performance
The electric motor produces 204 hp and 310 Nm of torque. According to available specifications, the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km per hour in around 8.2 seconds.
As an electric vehicle, the Tomahawk EV delivers its motor torque without the conventional gear changes associated with petrol or diesel vehicles.
Five Seat and Seven Seat Options
One of the major highlights of the new electric SUV is the choice between five seat and seven seat configurations.
The seven seat layout is available across the Excite, Exclusive and Essence variants. The five seat configuration is restricted to the top Essence variant, priced at Rs 22.99 lakh ex showroom.
This gives buyers the option of choosing the vehicle according to their family and passenger requirements.
The seven seat configuration is particularly significant because the Indian electric SUV market has comparatively fewer large three row electric vehicles.
Exterior Design
The Hector Tomahawk EV features a modern electric SUV design with a closed front grille area, LED lighting elements and a prominent MG logo.
The front section features LED projector headlamps and connected lighting elements. The SUV also gets 18 inch dual tone alloy wheels, roof rails and black body cladding.
The overall design maintains a large and upright SUV appearance while incorporating styling elements associated with MG's latest electric vehicle range.
Interior and Technology
The cabin is designed around a large touchscreen infotainment system measuring 15.6 inches. The vehicle also receives a digital instrument display and connected technology features.
Other reported equipment includes wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof and premium interior features. The SUV is also equipped with advanced driver assistance technology.
MG is positioning the Tomahawk EV as a technology focused family SUV rather than simply an electric alternative to its existing petrol models.
Safety Features
The Hector Tomahawk EV is equipped with several safety and driver assistance features. These include multiple airbags, electronic stability control, a 360 degree camera and advanced driver assistance systems.
The SUV is reported to offer Level 2 ADAS functionality, which can provide features such as assistance with lane monitoring and other driving situations, depending on the specific variant and operating conditions.
Drivers should continue to remain responsible for vehicle control even when using driver assistance features.
V2L and V2H Technology
Another important feature of the Hector Tomahawk EV is its support for vehicle to load and vehicle to home technology.
Vehicle to load functionality allows the vehicle's battery to supply electricity to compatible external devices. Vehicle to home technology can potentially allow the battery to provide power to a compatible home system.
MG is positioning these functions as additional benefits of its electric vehicle platform.
These technologies could become useful for customers who want to use their EV battery for purposes beyond transportation, subject to compatible equipment and operating conditions.
Battery as a Service
The BaaS model is one of the biggest differences between the Hector Tomahawk EV and conventional vehicle purchase plans.
Instead of paying the complete battery related cost as part of the vehicle's initial price, customers can choose the lower upfront vehicle price and pay a usage based battery rental charge.
The introductory BaaS price starts at Rs 13.99 lakh, while the battery rental charge is reported at Rs 4.90 per kilometre.
Customers should compare the total long term cost of ownership before choosing between the conventional purchase price and BaaS option. The final cost will depend on annual kilometres driven and the duration of ownership.
Bookings and Deliveries
Bookings for the MG Hector Tomahawk EV are open in India. Deliveries are expected to begin in September 2026, according to current launch reports.

Competition
The Hector Tomahawk EV enters a growing Indian electric SUV market. It is expected to compete with models such as the Mahindra XEV 9S and Kia Carens Clavis EV.
