Gold prices remained under close watch across India on Thursday, August 27, 2026, as the precious metal traded within a relatively narrow range in the retail market. The latest rates showed differences across cities and between bullion and jewellery markets.

According to data reported on August 27, the Indian Bullion and Jewellers Association indicated a 24K gold rate of around Rs 1,59,400 per 10 grams, while 22K gold was around Rs 1,46,117 per 10 grams. Silver was quoted at approximately Rs 2,40,200 per kilogram.

Retail prices can differ from benchmark bullion rates because jewellery stores may include making charges, GST and other applicable costs. Therefore, consumers should check the final invoice price before purchasing gold jewellery.

In major cities, the rates also showed variations. Mint reported that 24K gold in New Delhi was around Rs 1,60,250 per 10 grams, while 22K gold was around Rs 1,46,896. In Mumbai, 24K gold was around Rs 1,60,530 and 22K gold around Rs 1,47,153 per 10 grams.

In Kolkata, 24K gold was reported at around Rs 1,60,320 per 10 grams, while 22K gold was around Rs 1,46,960. Bengaluru recorded a 24K rate of around Rs 1,60,660 and a 22K rate of around Rs 1,47,272 per 10 grams.

For Chennai, the reported retail rates were around Rs 1,60,990 per 10 grams for 24K gold and Rs 1,47,574 for 22K gold. Another live price tracker showed Chennai's indicative 24K rate at approximately Rs 1,59,795 per 10 grams, highlighting how rates can differ depending on the source, timing and market segment.

The difference between benchmark and retail prices is important for consumers. Gold prices are continuously influenced by domestic and international market movements, currency fluctuations, global economic conditions and investor demand.

24K Gold

24K gold represents the highest commonly traded purity and is generally considered 99.9 percent pure. It is widely used for investment products and bullion, although it is relatively softer than lower-purity gold and is therefore less commonly used for everyday jewellery.

On August 27, the benchmark 24K price was around Rs 1,59,400 per 10 grams, according to the IBJA-linked rate reported by NDTV Profit.

22K Gold

22K gold is commonly used for jewellery because it contains a high proportion of gold while being more durable than 24K gold.

The benchmark 22K rate was around Rs 1,46,117 per 10 grams on August 27. Retail rates in individual cities were somewhat different.

18K Gold

18K gold contains a lower proportion of pure gold compared with 22K and 24K varieties. It is commonly used for jewellery designs that require greater durability and can also be used in contemporary jewellery.

The indicative Chennai rate reported by Mint's live gold-price tracker was around Rs 11,985 per gram for 18K gold on August 27.

Why Gold Prices Vary

Gold does not necessarily have one identical retail price throughout India. Rates can differ because of transportation costs, local taxes, dealer margins, jewellery brand pricing and market conditions.

For jewellery purchases, the quoted gold rate is only one component of the final bill. Making charges can add substantially to the cost, while GST and other applicable charges can also increase the amount payable.

Consumers should therefore compare the gold rate and the complete final price rather than looking only at the per-gram rate.

Silver Prices

Silver also remained an important part of the precious metals market on August 27. IBJA-linked data placed silver at around Rs 2,40,200 per kilogram. Mint's city-level data showed retail silver rates varying across markets.

The movement of silver and gold can sometimes differ because the two metals are influenced by different industrial and investment demand factors.

What Buyers Should Check

People planning to purchase gold jewellery should verify the purity mentioned on the product and the applicable hallmark information. They should also ask the jeweller for a detailed bill showing the gold rate, weight, purity, making charges, GST and other charges.

Since gold prices can move during the trading day, checking the latest rate immediately before making a purchase is advisable.

The August 27 prices also demonstrate why consumers should compare rates from multiple jewellers before completing a major purchase.

Gold continues to remain an important asset for Indian households, both as jewellery and as an investment. Changes in international prices, domestic demand and economic conditions can influence the market.

For August 27, the overall picture was one of relatively steady retail pricing, although individual city rates showed noticeable differences. Benchmark data put 24K gold near Rs 1.59 lakh per 10 grams and 22K gold near Rs 1.46 lakh per 10 grams, while retail prices in several major cities were slightly higher.

As the market continues to fluctuate, consumers should focus on purity, the prevailing rate and the complete purchase cost before buying gold.

Gold prices remained under close watch across India on Thursday, August 27, 2026, as the precious metal traded within a relatively narrow range in the retail market.
