Larsen and Toubro has secured a major set of power transmission and distribution orders across India, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, strengthening its position in the power infrastructure sector. The company announced that its Power Transmission and Distribution business has won multiple engineering, procurement and construction orders that fall under its Mega order category.
According to L&T, its Mega order classification covers projects valued between Rs 10,000 crore and Rs 15,000 crore. The company has not disclosed individual contract values for the projects. Therefore, the announced figure represents the overall range applicable to the group of orders rather than a single contract worth Rs 15,000 crore.
The latest orders cover projects in three important markets, with work involving transmission lines, substations and other power infrastructure. The projects are aimed at strengthening electricity transmission networks and supporting the integration and evacuation of renewable energy.
In Saudi Arabia, L&T’s Power Transmission and Distribution business has secured orders in the 380 kV transmission and substation segments. The projects are expected to increase transmission capacity and support the evacuation of renewable power. They are also intended to strengthen the country’s electricity transmission network and facilitate the integration of renewable energy into the grid.
Saudi Arabia has been expanding its electricity infrastructure as it works to increase renewable energy capacity and modernise its power network. Transmission infrastructure is an important part of this transition because additional generation capacity requires stronger networks to move electricity from power generation sites to consumption centres.
In the United Arab Emirates, L&T has secured an order to construct 132/11 kV substations along with associated cabling works. Substations play a key role in electricity transmission and distribution by helping transform voltage levels and route electricity safely through the power network.
The company has also won a domestic order in India from a leading private sector developer. The project involves setting up a transmission system in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The scope includes transmission lines and substations, adding to L&T’s ongoing presence in India's power infrastructure market.
L&T’s Power Transmission and Distribution business provides engineering, procurement and construction services across different areas of the electricity transmission and distribution sector. Its capabilities include transmission lines, substations, underground cable networks, distribution networks, power quality improvement projects and infrastructure electrification.
The latest order wins also highlight the growing demand for grid strengthening and renewable energy integration. As countries increase renewable power generation, transmission networks need to be upgraded to handle additional electricity flows and connect new generation projects to existing grids.
Joji Sebastian, Executive Vice President and Head of the Power Transmission and Distribution business at L&T, said the new order wins demonstrate the breadth of the company’s engineering and execution capabilities. He also highlighted the business’s ability to deliver complex power infrastructure solutions across different geographical markets.
The announcement had a positive impact on L&T’s shares during Monday’s trading session. Business Today reported that L&T shares touched an intraday high of Rs 3,744.90, gaining 1.61 percent from the previous close of Rs 3,685.50. Other market reports also noted that the stock traded higher following the order announcement.
The market reaction reflects investor attention on L&T’s strong order inflows and its presence in large infrastructure projects. However, a rise in the share price following an order announcement does not by itself indicate the future performance of the stock. Stock prices can also be influenced by broader market conditions, company earnings, interest rates, foreign investment flows and sector-specific developments.
For L&T, the latest orders add to its international and domestic power transmission portfolio. The projects in Saudi Arabia and the UAE strengthen its presence in overseas markets, while the Visakhapatnam project adds another major domestic assignment.
The company’s latest order wins also come at a time when power infrastructure investment is receiving greater attention because of rising electricity demand and the expansion of renewable energy. Strong transmission networks are essential for connecting renewable power projects with consumers and ensuring reliable electricity supply.
Overall, L&T’s new Mega-category orders across India, Saudi Arabia and the UAE represent a significant addition to its Power Transmission and Distribution business. With projects covering 380 kV transmission and substations in Saudi Arabia, 132/11 kV substations in the UAE and transmission infrastructure in Visakhapatnam, the order wins underline the company’s expanding role in power infrastructure and renewable energy integration.
