Schools in Srinagar have resumed regular classes after being closed for several days due to heightened tensions and cross-border hostilities between Indian and Pakistani forces. The hostilities, which took place along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB), had raised serious concerns regarding the safety of civilians, particularly children attending school in the affected areas.
The temporary suspension of academic activities was implemented as a precautionary measure by the Jammu and Kashmir administration to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and staff. During the period of closure, security agencies were put on high alert, and educational institutions in proximity to vulnerable areas were instructed to remain shut until further notice.
Following a detailed security assessment and a noticeable decline in ceasefire violations, the local administration decided to allow the reopening of schools across Srinagar. Officials confirmed that all educational institutions are now functioning normally with adequate security arrangements in place.
A senior official from the Department of School Education stated, "We have closely monitored the situation over the past few days. Based on inputs from security agencies and district officials, it has been deemed safe for schools to resume operations. Our priority is to maintain a secure environment for students."
Parents and guardians have expressed relief at the resumption of academic activities. Many had voiced concern over the impact of the closure on their children's studies, especially with exams and academic schedules affected by the interruption.
The situation along the LoC and IB had become tense recently due to a series of reported ceasefire violations. Exchange of fire between Indian and Pakistani troops had led to the displacement of several families and caused damage to property. Though no major casualties were reported in Srinagar, the threat perception remained high, prompting the administration to act swiftly in suspending public gatherings, including school functions.
Educational institutions that were affected by the closure are now operating under revised safety protocols. These include regular coordination with local law enforcement, emergency drills, and enhanced communication with parents in case of any urgent developments.
Local leaders and educational experts have praised the timely decision to reopen schools, emphasizing the importance of restoring normalcy and reducing panic among residents. "Education must not be a casualty of conflict. We commend the administration for acting with caution and now ensuring the safe return of students to their classrooms," said a local academic.
The reopening of schools marks a step toward normalcy in the region, although security forces continue to maintain vigilance. The administration has urged the public to remain calm but alert, and to report any suspicious activity to authorities.
As the situation stabilizes, focus is shifting back to academic performance and the continuation of the school calendar without further disruptions.
