Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was aware of the upcoming film ‘Kesari 2’ from its inception and expressed appreciation for the subject of the movie, C. Sankaran Nair, a prominent but lesser-known figure in India’s freedom struggle. The actor, who plays the lead role, thanked the Prime Minister for acknowledging and encouraging cinema that brings to light unsung national heroes.
Speaking during a promotional event, Akshay Kumar stated that he had spoken about the film with PM Modi during a previous interaction. He was pleasantly surprised by the Prime Minister’s familiarity with C. Sankaran Nair’s legacy and his encouragement to move forward with the project. Akshay expressed pride in portraying such a pivotal historical character on screen, highlighting how cinema can play a powerful role in educating audiences about India’s rich past.
C. Sankaran Nair was a noted freedom fighter, jurist, and former President of the Indian National Congress. He played a key role in challenging British colonial rule, especially after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, and was one of the early voices advocating for civil rights and justice in colonial India. Despite his contributions, his story remains relatively obscure to the general public—a fact that the film aims to address.
The film, tentatively titled ‘Kesari 2: The Unsung Hero’, is not a direct sequel in terms of storyline but continues the theme of historical patriotism seen in the first Kesari film. It seeks to revive interest in forgotten freedom fighters through a compelling cinematic experience. The project is being backed by a reputed production house and directed by a noted filmmaker known for handling historical subjects with sensitivity and grandeur.
Akshay Kumar emphasized the importance of telling such stories in today’s time, especially to inspire younger generations. He believes that the recognition from leaders like PM Modi not only boosts the morale of filmmakers but also encourages more stories of national importance to be told.
With shooting expected to begin later this year, ‘Kesari 2’ is already generating buzz among history enthusiasts and cinema lovers alike. The film is expected to be a grand tribute to C. Sankaran Nair and promises to shed light on a crucial but often overlooked chapter in India's fight for freedom.
