Chhorii 2, the much-awaited sequel to the 2021 psychological horror film Chhorii, is now streaming and brings back Nushrratt Bharuccha in the lead role as Sakshi. Directed by Vishal Furia, the film attempts to expand on the social horror theme introduced in the original, continuing its commentary on gender-based violence and patriarchal traditions, wrapped in supernatural storytelling.
The film picks up shortly after the events of the first part, with Sakshi still haunted—both emotionally and literally—by her past. In this chapter, she finds herself in a new environment where the stakes are higher, and the evil she faces is more terrifying. However, the horror isn’t just from ghosts; it's also from the deeply rooted traditions and oppressive societal norms that the story critiques.
Nushrratt Bharuccha delivers a compelling performance, balancing vulnerability and determination. Her portrayal of Sakshi is emotionally rich and grounded, helping the audience connect with her trauma and resilience. The film’s strength lies in her ability to hold the narrative together, even when the plot occasionally loses momentum.
The direction by Vishal Furia remains consistent with the tone of the original film—slow-burn horror infused with thematic depth. The cinematography effectively uses shadows, sound design, and rural settings to build tension. However, some of the horror sequences may feel repetitive to those who are well-versed in the genre.
While the movie continues to tackle important themes like female infanticide, motherhood, and resistance to regressive traditions, it sometimes leans too heavily on exposition, slowing down the pace. The horror is present, but it often takes a backseat to the social message, which may disappoint viewers expecting a more traditional horror experience.
Supporting performances, especially from the antagonist and secondary characters, add weight to the story but lack the nuance seen in the protagonist’s arc. The background score remains subtle yet effective, and the eerie visuals contribute to the unsettling atmosphere.
Chhorii 2 is not just a horror film—it’s a social commentary wrapped in fear. While it doesn’t break new ground in terms of genre innovation, it is a solid continuation of Sakshi’s story and a bold attempt to mix scares with societal introspection.
