The highly anticipated trailer for "Citadel: Honey Bunny," directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, was unveiled on Tuesday. This Indian segment of the global spy-thriller series Citadel stars Varun Dhawan as Bunny, a stuntman who secretly works as a spy, and Samantha Ruth Prabhu as Honey, a struggling actress. The show, set in the 90s, also features KK Menon and has been developed by Raj and DK alongside their long-time collaborator Sita R Menon.
The two-and-a-half-minute trailer captures the thrilling journey of Bunny and Honey as they navigate their dual lives while raising their daughter, Nadia, who may have ties to Priyanka Chopra's character in the U.S. version of Citadel. The trailer is filled with intense action sequences, showcasing hand-to-hand combat and dynamic gunfights.
Varun Dhawan expressed his excitement about playing Bunny, stating, “This role is unlike any I’ve portrayed before. As a spy, he lives a double life, and each facet of his personality has two distinct sides, which was very exciting for me as an actor.” Samantha Ruth Prabhu echoed this sentiment, emphasizing her enthusiasm for being part of an action-packed narrative with deep character development and stunts that meet international standards. She remarked, “The challenges and efforts required to bring Honey to life have left a profound impact on me, both professionally and personally.”
The creators, Raj and DK, highlighted the significance of this project, saying, “Citadel: Honey Bunny is a significant project for us as it has given us the opportunity to be part of a larger, unprecedented world of spies and espionage that has never been done or even attempted before.”
In addition to Dhawan and Prabhu, the cast includes Simran, Saqib Saleem, Sikandar Kher, Soham Majumdar, Shivankit Parihar, and Kashvi Majmundar. "Citadel: Honey Bunny" is an Indian spin-off of the original U.S. series starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, which also features Stanley Tucci and Lesley Manville. The Italian version, "Citadel: Diana," recently premiered on Prime Video on October 10.
