Bollywood has seen numerous legendary on-screen pairings, but did you know that Anil Kapoor was initially against Madhuri Dixit’s casting in Beta? Released in 1992, the film turned out to be a massive hit, but Kapoor reportedly had reservations about Dixit’s ability to deliver a successful performance.
At the time, Madhuri Dixit had faced a few setbacks in her career, and Kapoor allegedly considered her a “flop” actress. He was concerned that her casting might affect the film’s success. However, director Indra Kumar stood by his choice, believing that Madhuri was perfect for the role of Saraswati.
When Beta finally hit the screens, it not only became a box-office sensation but also elevated Madhuri Dixit to superstardom. Her performance, particularly in the iconic song Dhak Dhak Karne Laga, won the hearts of audiences and critics alike. The film went on to win several awards, including Filmfare Best Actress for Madhuri.
Anil Kapoor later admitted that he had misjudged Madhuri’s potential. The duo went on to star in several other successful films like Ram Lakhan, Tezaab, and Pukar, becoming one of Bollywood’s most beloved on-screen pairs. Looking back, their chemistry in Beta remains an unforgettable part of Bollywood history.
