Ektaa Kapoor recently addressed the film The Sabarmati Report during its trailer launch, explaining that the movie does not just focus on one aspect of the 2002 Godhra incident but presents the first facet of the tragic event. The film, starring Vikrant Massey, is centered around the horrifying fire on the Sabarmati Express that killed 59 karsevaks at Godhra railway station on February 27, 2002. This tragic incident led to widespread communal violence across Gujarat, claiming the lives of over 1,000 people. Kapoor highlighted that the film tells the story of how the incident started, offering insight into a side of the event that has often been overlooked or underreported.
In her remarks, Ektaa stated, "This is not just the one facet, but the first facet. We are telling the genesis of this first facet without undermining the other facets. Unfortunately, this facet, how it all started, has not been reported enough."
Alongside Vikrant Massey, the film also stars Ridhi Dogra and Raashii Khanna in key roles. Directed initially by Ranjan Chandel, who left the project midway due to creative differences, the film is written by Avinash Singh Tomar and Arjun Bhandegaonkar, with dialogue by Dheeraj. Produced by Ektaa R Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, Amul V Mohan, and Anshul Mohan, The Sabarmati Report will be released in theatres on November 15.
