KK Menon, a renowned Bollywood actor, has earned acclaim for his roles in films such as Black Friday, Deewar, Sarkar, Kunal, Haider, and Baby. Apart from his successful film career, Menon has also gained significant popularity through his performances in various OTT web series like Special Ops, Parsi, The Railway Man, and Citadel: Honey Bunny.
In a recent statement, Menon discussed the shift in the entertainment industry, particularly regarding the role of actors in OTT platforms. Despite his illustrious film career, he mentioned that he never considered it essential to appear in a blockbuster film to preserve his value as an actor. Menon revealed, "In my first five years in cinema, I might have thought that not being part of a blockbuster or a typical film could diminish my worth. However, today, with OTT platforms, I am receiving recognition that I would have in mainstream cinema without needing to be a ‘star’."
Menon emphasized that the OTT space, unlike traditional films, places a premium on the actor’s craft rather than star status, offering actors the opportunity to be celebrated for their skills rather than their fame. This shift, he stated, was particularly rewarding as he was receiving the same level of praise on OTT platforms as he would in mainstream cinema, but without the requirement of being a “star”.
The actor's comments reflect the changing dynamics of the entertainment industry, where OTT platforms offer a platform for actors to shine based on their talent and not just their celebrity status.
