At the 2024 International Emmy Awards, The Night Manager, the Indian version of the acclaimed series fronted by Aditya Roy Kapur, missed out on the Best Drama Series award. The award in this highly competitive category went to the French drama Les Gouttes de Dieu (Drops of God), which triumphed over The Night Manager as well as The Newsreader - Season 2 from Australia and Iosi, El Espia Arrepentido from Argentina.
The Indian series, directed by Sandeep Modi and Priyanka Ghose, also starred Anil Kapoor and Sobhita Dhulipala. It is adapted from both John le Carré’s novel and the British show that featured Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, and Olivia Colman. Despite being the only Indian entry among the 14 nominated categories, the show did not secure a win.
The award ceremony, which took place in New York on Monday night, was hosted by Indian comedian Vir Das. This marked a historic moment for the comedian, who became the first Indian to host the prestigious awards. Vir Das, who won an International Emmy last year for his stand-up special Landing, received much appreciation for his hosting.
Other notable nominees included Delhi Crime season one, which made history as the only Indian series to win an International Emmy for Best Drama Series.
The nominees for the 2024 International Emmys hailed from countries such as Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Japan, and Germany. The awards covered a wide range of categories including performance by an actor and actress, comedy, documentary, non-scripted entertainment, sports documentary, and more.
The award for Best Drama Series was announced by the International Emmys on their official social media, where they congratulated Les Gouttes de Dieu for the win.
