While the film generated some buzz ahead of its release, the footfall in cinemas has not matched expectations, especially when compared to Deol’s previous blockbuster Gadar 2 .

Sunny Deol’s much-anticipated action film ‘Jaat’ continues its box office journey with a total collection of ₹15 crore in its first two days. While the film generated some buzz ahead of its release, the footfall in cinemas has not matched expectations, especially when compared to Deol’s previous blockbuster Gadar 2.

According to early estimates, Jaat opened with collections around ₹6.5 crore on Day 1 and witnessed a slight upward trend on Day 2, adding another ₹8.5 crore. However, this performance is being seen as underwhelming given Sunny Deol's return to the action genre and the promotional efforts leading up to the release.

Directed by Ramesh Varma, the film features Sunny Deol in a rugged, mass-appeal avatar that harks back to his earlier roles. The storyline revolves around a farmer-turned-rebel who stands up against corruption and injustice in rural India. While the narrative attempts to blend social themes with high-octane action, critics have given the film mixed reviews, citing its dated execution and lack of novelty.

Despite strong appeal in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, Jaat has failed to gain momentum in multiplexes and metro areas. Trade experts believe the film is facing tough competition from recent releases including Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan and a major South Indian release, which have drawn more urban audiences.

"Sunny Deol's performance is intense, but the film struggles with weak writing and predictable plot points," said one leading critic in their review.

The makers of the film are now banking on word-of-mouth promotion over the weekend to help sustain earnings. The performance over the next few days will be critical in determining whether Jaat can recover production costs and make a mark commercially.

Meanwhile, fans of Sunny Deol have expressed their support on social media, praising his energy and commitment in action sequences, even at this stage of his career. However, the younger audience appears less engaged with the film’s traditional storytelling style.

As the box office race continues, all eyes are on the weekend collections. If the film manages to maintain its pace or see an uptick in footfall, it could improve its position in the coming days. Otherwise, Jaat may be remembered as a modest effort from a veteran actor who has seen better box office days.
