With growing competition from newer releases and limited footfall in multiplexes, the film’s growth appears to have plateaued.

Sunny Deol’s latest action film Jaat, which initially opened to an encouraging response, is now showing signs of fatigue at the box office. After completing two weeks in theatres, the film’s total earnings have reached approximately ₹79.25 crore, struggling to cross the ₹80 crore mark on Day 14 (second Wednesday).

The film had a solid start, especially in single-screen theatres and regions where Deol enjoys a loyal fan base. With opening day collections crossing ₹9 crore and a strong weekend that followed, Jaat was projected to enter the ₹100 crore club by the end of its second week. However, the second week has seen a sharp drop in collections.

Trade analysts suggest that the slowdown can be attributed to multiple factors: the release of new films, reduced occupancy during weekdays, and a mixed response from audiences. While the film’s action sequences and Sunny Deol’s performance received praise, the screenplay and narrative depth were criticized by some reviewers, which may have impacted repeat viewership.

On its second Wednesday, Jaat collected just around ₹1.10 crore, marking a steep decline compared to its first-week earnings. With growing competition from newer releases and limited footfall in multiplexes, the film’s growth appears to have plateaued. Its performance in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities continues to provide some support, though not enough to push it over the ₹80 crore mark as anticipated.

Directed by Rajeev R. Mehta, Jaat is an action-packed drama that blends themes of justice and rural rebellion, drawing parallels to Deol’s earlier hits. The film also stars newcomers in key roles and includes patriotic undertones that initially drew audiences to theatres.

As the film enters its third weekend, the makers are hoping for a slight bump in earnings, especially with no major releases clashing directly. However, the film will need strong weekend collections to remain in the theatrical race and edge closer to the ₹100 crore milestone.

Whether Jaat can recover its momentum or continues to decline will become clearer in the coming days. For now, the film’s fate seems to hinge on word of mouth and its performance in non-urban centers.
