Emergency, a film centered on the Emergency declared by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975, stars Kangana Ranaut in the role of Indira Gandhi. Not only does Kangana portray the iconic figure, but she also directs the film. The movie features an impressive ensemble cast, including Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik, Bhumika Chawla, and Shreyas Talpade in prominent roles. The music is composed by G.V. Prakash, with the screenplay and dialogues penned by Ritesh Shah. The film has received a ‘UA’ certification.
Filming for Emergency was completed last year, but its release was delayed for specific reasons. Recently, the Mumbai High Court criticized the Central Censor Board for not issuing the film's certification promptly. However, despite these hurdles, the movie is now set to release on January 17, 2025.
Kangana Ranaut recently unveiled the trailer for Emergency and shared her thoughts on social media. In her post, she stated, "1975 Emergency - A pivotal chapter in Indian history. Indira, India's powerful woman. Caught in the chaos of Emergency, she was torn between her transformative vision for the country and the storm she created." With her directorial vision and powerful performances, Emergency promises to showcase an important moment in India's political history.
