The mythological action-drama Kannappa, starring Vishnu Manchu in the lead role, is gradually making its mark at the box office. After a promising start during its opening weekend, the film has witnessed a sharp decline in collections over the weekdays but is still on track to cross the Rs 30 crore milestone within its first week.
Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and backed by high production values, Kannappa is based on the legendary devotee of Lord Shiva, drawing on a powerful narrative rooted in Indian mythology. The film opened to a mixed response from critics but generated curiosity among audiences due to its subject, visual effects, and devotional themes.
According to early trade reports, the film earned approximately Rs 2.5 crore on Day 6, bringing the total domestic box office collection to around Rs 28.6 crore. The drop in collections during weekdays was expected, but the film has managed to maintain a steady pace in regions with strong cultural resonance to the story, particularly in Telugu-speaking states.
The initial box office boost came from family audiences and viewers interested in mythological content. Advance bookings during the first weekend contributed significantly to the film’s earnings, with Sunday being its highest-grossing day. However, weekday numbers have declined due to the absence of major holidays and stiff competition from other releases across languages.
Despite the slowdown, producers remain optimistic. Vishnu Manchu, who also produced the film, expressed gratitude to audiences for their support and said that the team remains hopeful about continued footfalls in the coming days. The film’s makers are now focusing on sustained promotions and are planning to release additional content, including behind-the-scenes footage and interviews, to keep audiences engaged.
Kannappa’s visual presentation and spiritual narrative have struck a chord with a niche audience, especially older viewers and families. The film’s devotional tone has also contributed to repeat viewership in smaller towns and temple regions, where such stories carry greater emotional impact.
Industry analysts believe that the second weekend will be crucial for Kannappa. With no major Telugu releases lined up immediately, the film has an opportunity to recover its drop in collections and possibly cross the Rs 35 crore mark within its second week, depending on audience turnout and word-of-mouth momentum.
The film’s international performance has been modest, with limited screenings overseas. However, the makers are reportedly exploring wider distribution in countries with a large Indian diaspora, which could boost its cumulative earnings.
As it heads into the weekend, Kannappa remains a film to watch in the mythological drama space, and its journey at the box office will largely depend on regional support and sustained interest from family audiences.
