Hansal Mehta’s suspense thriller The Buckingham Murders, led by Kareena Kapoor Khan, has announced its OTT release on Netflix, scheduled for November 8. Initially released in theaters on September 13, the film garnered a global box office collection of approximately Rs 16 crore, despite its limited commercial appeal.
Kareena, in a recent interview, addressed the film's modest theatrical performance, highlighting the significance of catering to diverse audiences in today’s film landscape. She remarked, “Each film has its audience, and The Buckingham Murders targeted a more cerebral, indie audience, quite different from the one for mainstream hits like Singham.” She also noted that her previous Netflix release, Jaane Jaan, was made for a different viewer base altogether, suggesting the importance of balancing content choices.
Director Hansal Mehta, meanwhile, discussed the industry's narrow focus on box office figures, calling it “reductive.” In his view, audiences should focus more on the narrative and artistic qualities of a film. He emphasized, “The problem lies in the fact that people don’t see the film for its story and characters but are overly invested in the numbers.”
Alongside Kareena, who also steps into production for the first time, The Buckingham Murders boasts an ensemble cast that includes Ash Tandon, Ranveer Brar, and Keith Allen. The screenplay, crafted by Aseem Arrora, Kashyap Kapoor, and Raghav Raj Kakker, explores a layered narrative and marks a collaborative production between Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, and Kareena herself.
