March 2026 is shaping up to be an unusual month for the Hindi film industry, with most Bollywood producers choosing to stay away from theatrical releases. The primary reason behind the cleared release calendar is the massive anticipation surrounding Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which is set to arrive in cinemas on March 19, 2026. Trade analysts believe the film’s scale and popularity have prompted other makers to avoid box office competition during the month.
The sequel follows the success of the first installment, which emerged as a major box office hit. The new chapter will once again feature Ranveer Singh in the lead role as Jaskirat Singh Rangi. The story is expected to delve deeper into the character’s backstory, tracing his transformation into a trained intelligence operative. The film also stars R. Madhavan as Ajay Sanyal, who mentors the protagonist as part of Mission Dhurandhar in Karachi. Returning cast members include Sanjay Dutt and Arjun Rampal, along with the much discussed character of Bade Sahab.
Given the strong pre release buzz and the expected opening, exhibitors are reportedly allocating a large share of screens to the film across major markets. As a result, several Hindi films originally planned for March have been postponed to later dates. This has led to a relatively thin Bollywood release slate for the month.
However, March 2026 will not be without competition. Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown Ups, starring Kannada superstar Yash, is also scheduled for release on March 19, coinciding with Eid. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film is described as a gritty period gangster drama. The ensemble cast includes Tara Sutaria, Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Rukmini Vasanth, Tovino Thomas and Kyle Paul. Trade circles are already discussing a significant North South box office clash, with competition for premium screens underway.
Another notable release expected around the same time is Mysaa, a period drama starring Rashmika Mandanna and directed by Ravindra Pulle. Initially planned for December 2025, the film was rescheduled to March 2026 and is reportedly eyeing a March 20 release, although an official confirmation is awaited.
Apart from theatrical releases, Anil Kapoor’s Subedaar is also slated for March 2026 but will skip cinemas and release directly on an OTT platform.
Overall, March 2026 is expected to be driven by a few high profile titles rather than a crowded release calendar. With Dhurandhar The Revenge leading the month and pan India films adding competition, industry watchers anticipate a focused but intense box office period.
