Mardaani 3 marks the return of Rani Mukerji as the uncompromising police officer Shivani Shivaji Roy in another intense chapter of the popular crime thriller franchise. Directed by Abhiraj Minawala, the film shifts its focus to the darker realities of child trafficking and organised crime operating in the rural interiors of India.

The story revolves around two strong women positioned on opposite sides of the law. Shivani Shivaji Roy, known for her courage and relentless pursuit of justice, is assigned a sensitive case involving the abduction of young girls. Her adversary is Amma, portrayed by Mallika Prasad, a powerful and ruthless figure who controls an underground network linked to child exploitation and organised begging.

The film opens with Shivani being appointed by the National Investigation Agency to investigate the disappearance of Ruhani, the daughter of Ambassador Sahu. The case takes a disturbing turn when Ruhani and another young girl, Jhimli, are abducted while playing together. As Shivani begins to uncover the layers of the crime, the narrative exposes the brutal methods used by trafficking networks to exploit vulnerable children.

The first half of Mardaani 3 is tightly edited and fast paced, focusing on building tension and establishing the gravity of the crime. The film avoids unnecessary distractions and keeps the investigation at the centre of the narrative. Shivani’s character is portrayed as determined yet emotionally affected by the crimes she encounters, adding depth to her role.

Mallika Prasad’s portrayal of Amma is unsettling and effective. Her calm exterior contrasts sharply with the cruelty of her actions, making the antagonist all the more disturbing. The film highlights the ideological clash between Shivani’s belief in justice and Amma’s twisted justification of her crimes.

Cinematography plays a significant role in enhancing the film’s atmosphere. The rural setting adds authenticity and reinforces the sense of isolation and danger faced by the victims. The background score complements the narrative without overpowering it, maintaining a steady sense of unease throughout.

The post interval portion raises the stakes further as Shivani risks her life to rescue the victims and dismantle the criminal network. The screenplay ensures that the focus remains on the investigation rather than sensationalism. The film continues the Mardaani franchise’s commitment to portraying socially relevant issues with seriousness and responsibility.

Rani Mukerji once again delivers a strong performance, embodying the resilience and moral strength of Shivani Shivaji Roy. Her portrayal reinforces why the character has become one of Bollywood’s most iconic female police officers.

Mardaani 3 is not an easy watch due to its subject matter, but it succeeds in delivering a gripping and meaningful crime thriller. The film reinforces the importance of confronting uncomfortable realities while maintaining a compelling cinematic experience.
