Bollywood’s much-loved adult comedy franchise Masti is back in the spotlight as the shooting for its fourth installment officially begins. Titled Masti 4, the film reunites original stars Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi, who were part of the franchise since its first release in 2004. The film is being directed by Milap Zaveri, known for his work on commercial entertainers and masala films.
The production was announced on social media with behind-the-scenes images from the film set, generating excitement among fans of the series. The team has begun shooting the film at a Mumbai location, with more schedules planned in the coming weeks. The storyline remains under wraps, but sources close to the production suggest that the film will stay true to its roots, offering a mix of adult comedy, chaotic friendship, and situational humor.
Milap Zaveri took to his social media handles to express his gratitude towards the cast and production team, calling it a personal milestone in his directorial journey. He wrote that working with Riteish and Vivek once again felt like coming full circle, especially given his past collaborations with both actors as a writer and director.
The Masti franchise began in 2004 with Masti, directed by Indra Kumar, and was followed by Grand Masti in 2013 and Great Grand Masti in 2016. Known for its bold themes wrapped in lighthearted comedy, the series has built a strong fan base over the years. Each film focused on a group of friends navigating married life and temptation, with exaggerated and humorous consequences.
Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi, both key figures in the success of the series, are expected to reprise their iconic comedic roles with new twists. While Aftab Shivdasani’s return has not been officially confirmed, fans are hopeful for surprise appearances or cameo roles from previous cast members.
In recent interviews, both lead actors have expressed excitement about returning to a franchise that shaped a significant part of their early careers. They noted that while the tone of the humor will remain similar, Masti 4 will aim to reflect more modern themes and appeal to today’s audience without losing the core fun element.
The film’s makers are also paying attention to balancing humor with responsible content, particularly in light of changing audience expectations and evolving censorship norms. Zaveri has indicated that Masti 4 will retain the energy and madness of its predecessors but will also include smart writing and a stronger storyline.
With filming now underway, Masti 4 is expected to hit theatres in 2025. As the original Masti completes over two decades since its release, the return of its beloved characters marks a nostalgic moment for fans and a promising addition to the comedy space in Bollywood.
