Filmmaker Mohit Suri has spoken out about the creative process behind his upcoming film Saiyaara, shedding light on its development and addressing recent comparisons with another upcoming film starring Kartik Aaryan. In a recent interaction, Suri confirmed that he had narrated the script of Saiyaara to veteran filmmaker Anurag Basu prior to the film’s announcement and production schedule.
According to Suri, the conversation with Basu was part of a friendly exchange of ideas between two creative professionals. He emphasized that there was no collaboration involved, but he values Basu’s feedback and respects his body of work. “I always like to bounce off ideas with people whose work I admire. Anurag Basu is one of those people,” Suri said.
Saiyaara, which stars debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has been gaining attention not only for its fresh casting but also due to reports suggesting its storyline bears similarities to an upcoming romantic drama featuring Kartik Aaryan. When asked about this, Suri responded that he was surprised by the comparisons and denied any connection between the two scripts.
“There are only so many stories you can tell in a genre like romance,” Suri remarked. “It is common for films to explore similar emotional themes, but that does not mean they are the same. Saiyaara is a personal story that comes from my own experiences and creative vision.”
He also noted that speculation based on trailers or leaked information is often misleading. “Audiences sometimes draw conclusions too early. I would request viewers to watch the film before making comparisons. Every film has its own journey and intention,” he added.
Mohit Suri, known for directing successful romantic dramas like Aashiqui 2, Ek Villain, and Malang, shared that Saiyaara explores the emotional evolution of young love in a contemporary setting. The script, he said, took several months to finalize and reflects his current mindset as a storyteller. While he has always been associated with intense love stories, Suri mentioned that Saiyaara focuses more on emotional maturity than melodrama.
On the casting front, the film marks the debut of Ahaan Panday, who comes from a family with strong ties to the industry, and Aneet Padda, a newcomer with no previous film background. Suri said he chose the actors for their fresh screen presence and chemistry, not for their connections or popularity.
The production of Saiyaara is currently in full swing, and the makers are aiming for a release later this year. Promotional material, including the first look and teaser, is expected to be unveiled soon. Mohit Suri concluded by saying he is confident in the film’s originality and is looking forward to sharing it with audiences.
