Rahi Barve, the director of the critically acclaimed film Tumbbad, took to social media to share exciting news about his next project, Pahadpangira. Describing the film as the second chapter of his originally planned trilogy following Tumbbad, Barve announced that Pahadpangira will be released in 2026.
He also shared a poster with a translated concept note that hints at the film's intriguing premise: "In history, women had power over the world... But then a devastating flood came, and with it, the rise of Pahadpangira." The story suggests a shift in societal power dynamics, with the mysterious Pahadpangira ushering in patriarchy, a force that remains unseen by any man.
Earlier, Barve had confirmed that he would not be returning to direct Tumbbad 2, a sequel recently announced by actor-producer Sohum Shah. Instead, Barve will focus on the trilogy’s second chapter and its future, which he described as a deeper dive into the themes of feminism and societal structures. The trilogy’s final chapter is titled Pakshitirtha, but Barve kept details about it under wraps for now.
Barve is also working on two web-series, Gulkanda Tales and Rakt Bramand, and is expected to begin production on Pahadpangira in 2025. Meanwhile, Tumbbad 2 will be directed by Adesh Prasad, who served as the co-director on the original film.
