The makers of Raja Shivaji have unveiled the first official poster of the film on the occasion of Shiv Jayanti 2026. The poster features Riteish Deshmukh in the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, one of the most revered figures in Indian history. The unveiling coincided with the birth anniversary celebrations of the Maratha king on February 19.
Riteish Deshmukh, who is also associated with the film’s direction and production, shared the poster across social media platforms. Actor Genelia D'Souza also posted the first look along with a detailed caption in Marathi. In her message, she spoke about the enduring legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his contribution to Indian history, emphasising his courage and leadership.
The film has been described as a pan India historical project and is being shot simultaneously in Marathi and Hindi. The makers had previously announced the film a few months ago, confirming its large scale production. Raja Shivaji is considered one of the most anticipated films slated for release in 2026.
In the first poster, Riteish Deshmukh appears in traditional royal attire, with a stern expression and warrior like presence. The visual presentation aims to reflect the strength, resilience and strategic brilliance associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The background design and costume details suggest that the film intends to recreate the historical era with attention to authenticity and scale.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj founded the Maratha Empire in the seventeenth century and is remembered for his administrative reforms, military strategies and resistance against larger imperial forces. His legacy continues to hold significant cultural and historical importance, particularly in Maharashtra.
The release of the poster on Shiv Jayanti added symbolic significance to the announcement. The occasion is widely observed across Maharashtra and other parts of India with cultural programmes and tributes honouring the Maratha ruler. By unveiling the first look on this day, the makers sought to align the film’s promotional campaign with the historical importance of the date.
Industry observers note that historical films based on prominent figures often attract considerable public interest and scrutiny. Audiences typically expect accurate representation of historical events and respectful portrayal of revered leaders.
While further details regarding the cast, supporting actors and release schedule are expected in the coming months, the first poster has already sparked discussion among fans and cinema enthusiasts. The film aims to present the life and achievements of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on a grand cinematic scale.
More updates about Raja Shivaji are anticipated as production progresses toward its planned 2026 release.
