Mumbai:

Bollywood star Vicky Kaushal has another blockbuster to his name as his latest release, Chhaava, climbs the box office charts. The film has now overtaken Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor, to become the second highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025. This achievement solidifies Kaushal's position as one of the most bankable stars in the industry.

Chhaava, a period action-drama based on the life of Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, has won hearts with its emotional depth, grand visuals, and impactful performances. The film explores Sambhaji’s bravery, political strategies, and sacrifices, offering audiences a blend of history and high-octane drama.

Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film’s cinematic appeal lies in its detailed storytelling, authentic war sequences, and a strong narrative that connects with the audience. Vicky Kaushal’s performance as Sambhaji has been widely praised for its intensity, depth, and dedication to the role.

As per trade analysts, Chhaava has earned over ₹300 crore globally, inching closer to the year’s top spot. The film opened to strong reviews and word-of-mouth, which helped maintain its momentum in the second and third weeks. Multiplexes and single-screen theatres alike have reported high occupancy, particularly in Maharashtra and northern India.

Meanwhile, Stree 2, though successful and entertaining, has now slipped to third place in the year's box office rankings. The horror-comedy sequel did well initially but was soon overtaken by the wave of appreciation and repeat viewership that Chhaava enjoyed.

Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Maddock Films, Chhaava continues to perform well and is expected to enjoy a steady theatrical run in the coming weeks. The success of the film also highlights a growing audience interest in historical epics, proving once again that well-executed storytelling can bring the past alive in powerful, cinematic ways.
