Actor and producer Vishnu Manchu has shared key details about how Bollywood star Akshay Kumar came on board to portray Lord Shiva in the upcoming pan-Indian mythological film Kannappa. The casting has generated considerable buzz, especially after rumours suggested that it would be difficult to get a leading actor like Akshay Kumar to commit to such a role, reportedly due to industry constraints and scheduling challenges.
Speaking to the media, Vishnu Manchu addressed these speculations and clarified that contrary to the widespread belief that bureaucratic red tape and personal hesitations might prevent Akshay from accepting the role, the actor responded positively from the outset. “A lot of people told me Akshay sir might not take this up, saying there were red tapes surrounding his schedule and choices. But when I approached him, he listened to the story and said yes almost immediately,” Manchu said.
Manchu revealed that Akshay was drawn to the script's spiritual depth and the significance of the character. He added that the actor's portrayal of Lord Shiva will bring a unique perspective to the mythological epic. “He understood the emotion of the character, and he connected with the role on a personal level. That’s what made the difference,” he explained.
Kannappa is based on the life of the legendary devotee Kannappa, who is revered in Shaivite tradition for his unwavering devotion to Lord Shiva. The film is set to be a large-scale production, with elaborate visuals, historical elements, and strong emotional storytelling. The casting of Akshay Kumar as Lord Shiva has added star power and curiosity to the project, making it one of the most anticipated films in the mythological genre.
Vishnu Manchu also shared that the team is treating the subject with great sensitivity and reverence. He said the film will focus on devotion, sacrifice, and the cultural richness of Indian mythology. “We are not treating it just as entertainment. It is a story rooted in belief and history, and we are handling it with the responsibility it deserves,” he added.
Apart from Akshay Kumar, the film features a strong ensemble cast and is being shot across multiple locations in India and abroad. The team has also invested heavily in visual effects and set design to bring the world of Kannappa to life authentically.
Akshay Kumar’s participation marks his first major appearance in a mythological film after playing various roles across action, comedy, and historical genres. His portrayal of Lord Shiva is expected to present a balanced blend of intensity and divinity.
As production continues, fans and industry insiders are closely following developments around Kannappa. Vishnu Manchu remains confident that the film will not only entertain but also resonate with audiences who value storytelling rooted in cultural and spiritual tradition.
