One of the standout features of Suriya's Kanguva that has generated significant attention is its world-building. The film, which brings to life various worlds for its different clans, has captivated audiences with its meticulous creation of environments—ranging from Kanguva’s (Suriya) lush forests to Udhiran’s (Bobby Deol) fiery landscapes. Director Siva, in a recent interview with Sudhir Srinivasan, shared insights into this process, explaining that the magic of cinema lies in the connection between the audience and the film, a connection that goes beyond analysis and is experienced emotionally.
Siva reflected on how audiences know they are watching actors in a theater, yet they become deeply immersed in the story, applauding and shedding tears. This connection, Siva believes, is what makes cinema powerful. He elaborated on how he and his team created five distinct and raw worlds for each clan in the film. The worlds were designed to be untamed, something both Suriya and the supporting cast, including Bobby Deol and Karunas, had never encountered before. Siva explained that this unique, ancient world, set 1500-2000 years ago, was unlike anything the actors had experienced, and they had to adapt to interact with the surroundings and people in this environment.
Kanguva, released with great anticipation, has received mixed reviews. In addition to Suriya and Bobby Deol, the film also stars Disha Patani, making her Tamil debut, alongside other prominent actors like Jagapathi Babu, Yogi Babu, and Kovai Sarala. The fantasy action film, set across multiple time periods, will be split into two parts and is produced by Studio Green and UV Creations. The film’s cinematography was handled by Vetri Palanisamy, with editing by the late Nishadh Yusuf and art direction by the late Milan Fernandez. Dialogues for the film were written by Madhan Karky.
