Vignesh Shivan, who entered the Tamil film industry with the 2012 film Podaa Podi starring actor Simbu, has become one of the most prominent directors in Tamil cinema. In 2022, he married actress Nayanthara, and is currently directing the film L.I.K.E with Pradeep Rangnathan. Recently, Vignesh met with Puducherry Tourism Minister Lakshmi Narayan to discuss filming permissions in Puducherry and locations for art events. During this meeting, a local film industry member, who accompanied Vignesh, reportedly asked if the government-owned 'Seagulls' hotel would be sold, and if so, at what price. This raised a lot of attention and led to the circulation of a photograph on social media.
In response, Vignesh Shivan issued a statement clarifying his side of the story. Minister Lakshmi Narayan also addressed the issue, stating that no government property would be sold, and emphasized that all government assets in Puducherry are owned in the name of the President of India.
